Danielle Torain-Victor is an accomplished executive, strategist, and institution-builder with over 15 years of experience in driving complex community change, developing public and nonprofit infrastructure, and leading community investment initiatives. Her passions include increasing public and private investments in communities and leaders of color, fostering inclusive local economies, championing philanthropic innovation, and advocating for racial justice and intersectional equity.

Torain is the founder and principal of Torain Advisory, LLC, a strategy and management consulting firm. She specializes in providing organizational development, change management, facilitation, advisory services, and executive management support to philanthropic, public, private, and grassroots leaders dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice.

Previously, Torain served as the executive director of Open Society Institute-Baltimore, where she led initiatives to address racial disparities in capital access and forged public-private partnerships to counteract the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color. She also directed Leadership & Innovation at Open Society-U.S., focusing on strengthening investments in leaders of racial justice movements nationwide. As part of the Open Society Foundations’ global restructuring, Torain led a $20 million fundraising campaign and managed a change process that ensured a responsible conclusion to the 25-year legacy of OSI-Baltimore.

Torain’s prior experience includes leading the community participatory planning and institutional development of the Baltimore Children & Youth Fund, a $12 million non-lapsing fund dedicated to supporting grassroots organizations serving children and youth. She also served as a Senior Associate at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, where she led place-based initiatives focused on workforce development, economic inclusion, resident leadership, and community capacity building. Additionally, she was the Senior Director of Strategy and Development at the Center for Urban Families and a Criminal Justice Associate at the Baltimore Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice. Following Baltimore’s 2015 Uprising after the death of Freddie Gray, Torain launched multiple initiatives to connect local activists and organizers with the philanthropic resources needed to advance their work.

Torain is a graduate of the University of Richmond and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. She has received numerous public honors, including Maryland Daily Record’s Top 100 Women, the National Immigration Project’s Impact in Movement Award, CLLCTIVLY’s Change Maker award, Baltimore Business Journal’s Leading Women recognition, Maritime Magic Rising Star of Baltimore, and the Red Cross of Central Maryland’s Spirited Woman Rising of Maryland. She is also a 2012 graduate of theLEADERship, a program of the Greater Baltimore Committee. Torain serves on various local and national boards and advisory bodies, including the France-Merrick Foundation, the W. Haywood Burns Institute, the Bowie State University Philanthropy Initiative, the Women Entrepreneur Leadership Lab, and The Funders Network PLACES Fellowship. She remains deeply committed to supporting grassroots leaders and community-led movements throughout Baltimore.
